What’s Our Goal?

Solar Para Todos is a project that aims to lower electricity costs for low-income households by introducing community solar to Framingham. We want to make community solar easy to understand for everyone, so that Framingham residents can be confident in switching to a cleaner, cheaper way of getting energy. Community solar is strongest when neighborhoods come together, and residents make their voice heard.

The Ribeiro Family’s Savings

Parents Bianca and Guillerme live in an apartment with their child, Jordan, and receive food stamps.

  • Last year, before they joined Solar Para Todos, they paid $130 for their electric bill in December. They were only able to buy their son a soccer ball for Christmas.

  • Then they joined Solar Para Todos. Now in December, they paid $105 on their electric bill.

  • With the additional money saved throughout the year, they could now buy Jordan new soccer cleats and take him ice skating with his friends.

How It Works: The Billing Process

The Ribeiro Family’s Billing

  • Bianca receives her monthly Eversource bill. Her electric bill for the month is $130. When she joined Solar Para Todos, Bianca subscribed to community solar with Sunwealth.

  • Bianca now gets a $100 solar credit from Sunwealth. The $100 solar credit is used to pay her Eversource bill. Now, Bianca only has to pay $30 to Eversource.

  • Sunwealth then sends Bianca a bill for the $100 solar credit she purchased. Because Bianca is eligible for Solar Para Todos, she gets a 25% discount on the credits and only has to pay Sunwealth $75.

  • In the end, with the discount on the solar credits, Bianca pays $105 for the electric bill, instead of $130.

The amount of solar credits Bianca receives from month to month may differ depending on the weather. In the summer, she may receive more credits than she needs, resulting in a higher bill from Sunwealth. She uses those extra summer credits during the winter. When considering the entire year, this results in substantial overall savings.

Many people find they pay the lowest electric bills from November through January.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I sign up?

Fill out Sunwealth's community solar interest form, which takes less than two minutes. Then, Sunwealth will create an enrollment contract customized to your specific electrical needs. After the contract is signed, it may take several months before you start receiving solar credits. During the waiting period, you will keep receiving your regular Eversource bill.

Are there any enrollment or cancellation fees?

No! There are no enrollment or cancellation fees.

Why are my bills higher with community solar in the summer?

During the summer, solar panels generate the most electricity, and you may get more credits than you need. For this reason, you may receive higher electric bills from Sunwealth in the summer. You will be able to apply those unused credits in the winter and, over the whole year, you will save on your electric costs. Many people find they pay the least from November-January.
